Miguel joined Citigroup in 2010, becoming Head of Investment Banking for Africa (excl. SA & Egypt) in 2013, and later Head of Investment Banking for Middle East & Africa (excl. SA) in 2018. Since 2023, he serves as Vice-Chair of Investment Banking for the region.

Previously, he was a Senior Country Advisor at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs. He holds an MBA in Finance from Bayes Business School (City University, London) and a BSc in Economics from Nova SBE in Lisbon.

With over 25 years of M&A experience, Miguel has advised on multi-billion-dollar transactions across Europe, Africa, Brazil, and the Middle East. He also pioneered debut sovereign and corporate bond issuances from Africa in the global markets, and has led more equity offerings in MEA than any other global bank.

Under his leadership, Citi was named Best Advisory or Investment Bank by Euromoney in Africa (2020–23), UAE (2021–23), and the Middle East (2020, 2021, 2023).

Miguel is a regular media contributor and speaker at key regional and global forums, and in 2023 received the Africa Icon Banker award from African Banker magazine. He has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2018.
