Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu
Minister of Transport @ Government of Angola

Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu  was born on September 10, 1969, in Luanda Province. He is the son of Carlos Viegas de Abreu and Zita Sandão Viegas de Abreu. He holds a degree in Economics from Universidade Lusíada in Lisbon and a master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.

He currently serves as Angola’s Minister of Transport, a position he has held since 2022. From 2017 to 2018, he served as Economic Affairs Advisor to the President of the Republic. Throughout his career, he has held several high-level positions in Angola’s financial sector, including Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC), Advisor to the Minister of Finance, and Chairman of the Board of RECREDIT – Asset Management Company, S.A.

He was also Vice-Chairman of the General Assembly of the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA) between 2015 and 2018, and Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Angola from 2009 to 2015. From 1997 to 2002, he was Founder and Financial and International Director of Banco Angolano de Investimentos, S.A., and later served as Director of Studies, Projects and International Affairs at the African Investment Bank.

Among other key roles, he was a member of the Founding Commission of Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (2008/2009) and a Founding Member and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Banco de Negócios Internacional, S.A. (2006/2008).
