Short Bio

Mr. Scala is currently a director at Mozambique’s National investment and development bank. He is responsible for BNI’s sustainability, commercial and marketing departments where he coordinates the front office of all business areas and plays a key role on deal origination, corporate relations and institutional image. He was part of the team that founded the bank in 2011 and helped define the bank’s image and overall structure at that time, before taking a leave in 2014, returning in 2020.

In that absent period, Mr. Scala served as the managing director of a UK family office, where his focus was natural resources and logistics investment deals in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia. He is a board advisor at Uhusiano Capital, a UK impact investment boutique and at Digilogic, a pan-EU-Africa network of DIHs focusing on Smart logistics funded by the European Union.

Prior to his African experiences, Mr. Scala held positions in the US, Europe and Brazil where he started his career at Caixa Economica Federal – the country’s largest state bank. He is the founder of FurtherAfrica.com – a UK news and business intelligence digital platform and holds a degree in fine arts from Mackenzie University and a Marketing certificate from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
