Ana Fontoura Gouveia

Head of Sustainability, Bank of Portugal & Former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate, Portugal

 

Ana Fontoura Gouveia is currently Head of Sustainability at the Portuguese Central Bank and a visiting Assistant Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics.  

From January 2023 to March 2024, she was the Portuguese Secretary of State for Energy and Climate. She served as Chief Economist at the Cabinet of the Prime-Minister of Portugal from end-2019 to end-2022. 

Before, she worked at Banco de Portugal (2004-2008; 2018), the European Central Bank (2009-2014) and at the research offices of the Portuguese Ministry for the Economy and Ministry of Finance (2015-2018). In those years, she participated as Portugal’s representative in various international working groups, namely the OECD, the European Commission and the European System of Central Banks, and she published several publications on public policies. 

Ana holds a PhD in Economics from Nova SBE (2015) and, as part of her doctoral studies, was a visiting research student at Liège University and at the Toulouse School of Economics (2012/2013). She was also a visiting Professor at Nova SBE from 2016 to 2022.
